About the project

This project was instigated by Desdemona McCannon in 2008 to investigate ways in which the critical studies modules at NWSAD could be improved to enhance the learning experience of students with high levels of ‘visual thinking’ and problem solving who may have difficulty with the wtitten word. The project aims to work with students and staff at NWSAD to collaborate on alternative forms to the academic essay including planning, structuring ideas, organising research, and communicating a conceptual argument. 

Desdemona McCannon is the Senior Lecturer in Visual Culture at NWSAD 

Gemma Rochester is the Study Support tutor at NWSAD
